Asian bakeries are my weakness, and the Japanese ones are the most innovative of them all. Take this mentaiko baguette, for example: a crusty French baguette (though more akin to the consistency of crispy garlic bread) has been slathered with marinated pollock roe paste. It’s a bit jarring to get a slightly fishy smell and taste as you eat this bread, but it’s not a bad surprise. The only bad thing, really, is that it could have used even more mentaiko paste…
