Good appetites run in the family, and my aunt made sure mine was amply satiated when I visited her in Kawasaki, Japan, last summer. Across from my cousin’s school—where they filmed the popular drama “Nodame Cantabile,” by the way—is Kome Kafe (rice cafe) BOX. It’s a cute lunch spot that’s got a breezy, beach shack of a feel, with the menu scribbled with chalk on the walls. My aunt’s karaage lunch set came with a generous helping of miso soup, rice, lightly simmered kabocha, non-greasy fried chicken, and the ubiquitous Asian-style salad, with a too-sweet dressing and of course, corn. Love Japan and their lunch sets.
