Mother’s Day is celebrated perhaps just as lavishly, if not more, in my household. (Does that give you a clue on who wears the pants in our family?)  This year, we celebrated at Ibiza, a much-lauded Spanish restaurant in New Haven.  Ethnic dining that isn’t Italian in my small town in Connecticut is rare to come by, so it’s nice to change it up a bit.  Spotty service, but the kitchen rewarded us with a few extra goodies for our patience.  Their paella de mariscos was well worth the wait, though.  Not enough socarrat —those are the crispy, caramelised bits of rice at the bottom—but the fragrant Bomba saffron rice was flavorful and generously studded with Spanish prawns, shrimp, mussels, squid, clams and the fish of the day.
Needless to say, Mother’s Day ended in quite an epic food coma.
